Rawanq welcomes Viking 1 as the new flagship of its expanding fleet

Rawanq is pleased to be announcing that Rawanq's newest vessel, Viking 1 has recently been added to our fleet of vessels.
Viking 1 was constructed in 2001 at the Asmar Shipyard located in Valparaiso, Chile. Prior to being acquired by Rawanq, Viking 1 had spent nearly 22 years serving as a fishing vessel for a family-owned fishery based out of Grenivík, Iceland. During those 22 years, Viking 1 earned a solid reputation for being a reliable and productive vessel.
In late 2025, when the fishery purchased a new commercial fishing vessel, they decided to sell the Viking 1 to Rawanq, marking a major milestone for the company. At 76.2 meters in length and 3,003 gross tonnage, Viking 1 is a multi-purpose commercial fishing vessel capable of both purse seining and pelagic trawling. In addition to providing a complete onboard processing facility, Viking 1 also features extensive refrigeration storage capacity for the storage of raw and frozen product.
Due to Viking 1 large size and processing capabilities, the vessel is well suited for the needs of Rawanq to provide the highest quality seafood products to the global market. After acquiring the vessel in the Icelandic Capital Region, the vessel was then sailed to Akureyri, Iceland in early July, completing a 24-hour voyage, to begin a major renovation by countries top ship builders, Slippurinn DNV. The renovation included major enhancements to the onboard processing factory including the addition of extra capacity to expand and improve the processing area, renovations to the crew quarters and installation of updated equipment to meet the current operational standards.
After completion of the renovations, the vessel departed from the shipbuilder’s port on December 24th and is currently traveling to its new home port in Duqm, Oman, where it will become the flagship of Rawanq's expanding fleet of vessels. Estimated time of arrival in Duqm is expected to be January 17th, with continued renovations to take place while the vessel is underway.
The acquisition of the Viking 1 represents a significant milestone in the history of Rawanq. We look forward to sharing more news and media on the vessel in the near future.
